Since 1944, there has been much speculation that a large water monster, the Pend Oreille Paddler, inhabits Lake Pend Oreille and haunts the residents of Sandpoint.

In 2004, a new monster reared its many-geared head; that is, the Pend Oreille Pedalers, a group of local singletrack and road riding enthusiasts.

The Pend Oreille Pedalers was established in 2004 as a bicycle club and in 2008 incorporated as a non-profit 501c3. The goal is simple: to educate cyclists and preserve and improve bicycling opportunities in Sandpoint and the Northern Panhandle.
