Pend Oreille Pedalers Advocacy Projects

National Public Lands Day, 2004

Pend Oreille Pedalers members assisted the Idaho State Forest Service with a day of trailwork. Our team restored an overgrown trail and built a new interpretive loop trail at Priest Lake State Park
(we have pictures for this)

National Trails Day, 2005

Twenty-eight members of Pend Oreille Pedalers made short work of restoring the Mineral Point Trail for the Sandpoint District of the US Forest Service. Trail was widened where erosion had narrowed it, and shortcuts were eliminated with the hillsides restored.

National Public Lands Day, 2005

Pend Oreille Pedalers plans to volunteer to restore the popular Gold Hill trail for the US Forest Service. Shortcuts have damaged the hillside, and need to be repaired. Switchbacks will be improved, as well.

Pend Oreille Pedalers continues to work with private landowners around Sandpoint to guarantee the preservation of existing multi-use trails. In addition, we have received permission and built new sustainable trails on private property. We work to educate the landowners of the benefits of maintaining these trails. (we have pix of this, too)

Pend Oreille Pedalers is working with the City of Sandpoint Recreation Department and Schweitzer Mountain Resort to create a mountain bike and BMX skills park.

Pend Oreille Pedalers is working with city and county governments to encourage the inclusion of right-of-way for trails and creation of open space corridors in newly developed areas.

Pend Oreille Pedalers, along with the Selkirk Recreation District, is working to obtain permission to build a new trail which would connect the Schweitzer ski resort with the new Mickinnick trail at the south end of the Selkirk Range.

Pend Oreille Pedalers is proud to sponsor the IMBA Trail Care Crew visit, August 18-21, 2005. The crew will bring information on IMBA Advocacy issues, and will teach trail building techniques to all interested.

Pend Oreille Pedalers is a proud affiliate of IMBA, the International Mountain Biking Association, which works to promote the interests of bicyclists and trail users throughout the world.

Pend Oreille Pedalers produced maps containing road rides and mountain bike trails around Sandpoint, and thanks to a grant from the Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce, was able to distribute these maps free of charge to the area’s visitors.
